The Jags ‘24(9th grade) girls National team had a strong start to the season going 4-0 in the Fencor Invitational.
Saturday saw the Jags open with Chesco Storm - Palmer, coming out on top 54-23. Alice Nash(Episcopal Academy) came out on fire, leading the Jags with 19. Brooke Edwards(Central Bucks - South) and Elizabeth Sharp(Villa Marie) combined for 21 rebounds.
The 2nd game on Saturday was against another Chesco Storm team with the Jags prevailing 46-14. Natalie Magnotta(Episcopal Academy), Allie Hurd(Perkiomen Valley) and Leah Pfeiffer(Episcopal Academy) led a balanced scoring effort for the Jags. Caitlin Ashley(Spring-Ford) and Brooke Fenchel(Souderton) each had double digit rebounds for the Jags.
Sundays action started off vs a talented 2-0 Warrington-Warwick team but the Jags defense wore them down leading to a 56-35 Jags win. Nash led all scorers with 12 while Magnotta and Edwards had 11 each. Pfeiffer and Hurd paced the defensive effort with a combined 11 steals while Sharp and Fenchel combined for 17 rebounds.
The final game of the tournament had the Jags with a 9 point lead at the half. But the Jags once again turned up the defensive intensity starting the 2nd half on a 21-0 run while only giving up 6 2nd half points to coast to a 59-30 win vs District One. Edwards had a game high 15 while Magnotta had four 3’s as part of her 14 points. Ashley, Sharp and Fenchel once again dominated the glass for the Jags while Pfeiffer(6), Nash(6) and Edwards(5) led the team in assists. Hurd paced the defensive effort with 6 steals.
