Despite having only 2 practices, the Jaguars 7th Grade Boys team started their spring tournament circuit with a dominating performance in the AFBE Reading Area Tournament this past weekend. The Jags went 4-0 to capture the championship. In doing so they outscored their opponents 203-94. The boys started the weekend with a balanced scoring effort when all 10 active players scored which led to 45-13 rout of the Juniata Indians. Later in the day, the Jags handled the Berks Red Storm (Red) by a score of 64-27 with Michael McKenna (14) and Shane Nelson (13) as the high scorers. Despite being a little sluggish throughout the game, Jags finished a long day at the gym with Amir Brunson posting 9 points to help get a solid 42-31 win over the Berks Red Storm (Black) squad. On Sunday the boys used "lock down" defense to hold Twin Valley to only 4 points in the first half, which allowed them to cruise to a tidy 52-23 win to claim the championship. Throughout the weekend outstanding offensive performances were had by Michael McKenna (12 ppg), Amir Brunson (10 ppg), Shane Nelson (9 ppg) and Anthony Rybarczyk (7 ppg). On the defensive side of the ball, the play of Caleb Little, Michael McKenna and Ryan Kovaleski stood out. Lastly, the Jags controlled the boards thanks in particular to the efforts of McKenna, Nelson and Brunson.
